Thousand Palms is located in Riverside County, California. It is a census designated place with a population over 5100 inhabitants. Thousand Palms is situated at 33°49'1" North, 116°23'14" West. Thousand Palms is famous for its golf courses in the desert, gathering people from all over the country. This sport can be practiced at Ivey Ranch Country Club (located at the foot of the mountains), at Tri-Palm Country Club - Par 3 Course and at the Tri-Palm Country Club - Eighteen Course (with an eighteen hole course). The atmosphere around here is very comfortable and friendly, and you always feel very welcomed. For outdoor fans fishing and camping are very popular at a nearby lake or park. The nostalgic can take a short day trip through the scenic countryside.
Thousand Palms is very close to the entertainment venues of the cities of Palm Springs and Palm Desert. Shopping, dining, golfing and sightseeing are all just minutes away. Near Thousand Palms, in the Thousand Palms Oasis (few minutes away from the city) is located The Coachella Valley Preserve home of the threatened animal, the Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard (Uma inornata), that can be found nowhere else in the world.
The amazing Thousand Palm Oasis is a relic of the miocene and pilocene periods. On a hot day the fan palm forest with the water from the springs and ponds can easily lower the temperature with about 20 degrees. All kind of birds live in this oasis: geese, red-tailed hawks, golden eagles, turkey vultures, falcons, quail, hummingbirds and many more.
Around here there are also many other hiking trails like he McCallum, Hidden Palms, Moon Country, Pushawalla Palms, and Willis Palms trails. The pond of the McCallum Oasis is home to the tiny and rare Desert Pupfish.
